Before the redesign of Buffalo’s main street, it was necessary to first find a case study of a similar street. What makes this street work? How can we borrow strategies to improve our main street?

For this assignment, I chose Northern Boulevard in Queens, NY. I found that before this street’s redesign, the area lacked a pedestrian island and featured unnecessary lanes. They would perform a road diet, create bike lanes, and add the aforementioned pedestrian lane. This would result in a 12% injury increase and a 30% pedestrian injury increase. The similar design to main street made this an excellent case study.
