SKETCHES

  • Pedestrian travel

While analyzing UB’s North Campus, it was noticed that many trees and bushes acted as nodes to maneuver pedestrian traffic. Placing nodes with trees and bushes not only provided natural shade, but helped pedestrian traffic move and bring attention to entry points to academic buildings.

  • capen hall pedestrian use

During the same North Campus analysis, it was noticed that the large buildings were being used as shade. The large modernist buildings are very tall, making pedestrians feel small and insignificant in comparison. However, the height is often also used to benefit any pedestrian that happens to be walking by it. This shows Capen Hall, a building with an extrusion on the side, often used as a place for students to stand under.

  • Entry Study

This sketch illustrates a landmark titled “East Pediment, Sun up” by Philip Pavia. It is an art installation that was installed in late September 2020 on North Campus. It acts as an easily identifiable mode of orientation. it sits directly next to an entry to the Student Union, a very hidden and hard to spot. location. The new art installation is very important because it acts as a landmark, allowing people to find the entry easier.

  • downtown buffalo sketch

On a trip to downtown Buffalo, I would sketch an interesting site—a view of the tall skyscraper Seneca One with Buffalo’s controversial skyway along it. It was an interesting view because it showed all aspects of Planning—skyscrapers, highways, and parks.

  • canalside sketch

While visiting Canalside at Buffalo for the first time, I would sit down to sketch what was around me to practice architectural sketching.

  • Fallingwater sketch

This sketch is of the famous Fallingwater building by Frank Lloyd Wright. This was my first attempt at drawing landscapes with charcoal.
